Qld Government offers $10,000 Digital Grant for Business

Let the Queensland Government Digital Grant pay up to $10,000 for your business to improve your online presence to attract more customers.

The grant can be used for

  • Digital content creation like web pages, mobile apps and media
  • Content marketing for your website, SEO, blog writing and social media
  • and more

The grant funding is on a match funding (ie you pay 50% and grant pays the other 50% up to $10,000) for eligible businesses for the purchase of digital software and services – such as website development, mobile applications development and content marketing. The business must show that the digital services will enhance the digital capabilities of their business and help them to be more competitive and employ more staff.

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible the business must:

  • have fewer than 20 employees at the time of applying for the grant
  • have an Australian Business Number (ABN) and be registered for GST
  • have Queensland headquarters or significant Queensland-based operations
  • declare if any owners or directors of the business are an undischarged bankrupt or insolvent.

Important dates

  • Round 1 opens on 8 November 2016 and closes 9 December 2016.
  • Businesses will be surveyed 12 months after the completion of the project.

Who should apply

All Queensland-based businesses can apply. The business must show that the digital technology or service purchased will enhance the digital capabilities of the business and help them to be more competitive.

So you want to have a logo that is distinctive, appropriate, simple and to convey an intended message about your business, about your brand. What should you do?
When you are designing a logo you should consider the following 5 principle:

  • Keep it simple
  • Versatile
  • Timeless
  • Appropriate
  • Memorable

1. Simple – a simple logo will allow your business to be recognised easily and it will be versatile and memorable in the same time.

In software development there is a KISS Principle, which stands for Keep It Simple, Stupid!

It contains a very important design consideration: simple logos are easily recognised, incredibly memorable and effective! You need something to catch the attention of the viewer if he views a signage driving 60 km per hour, on a package in a crowded shelf in a store, or on any other advertising, marketing and promotion vehicle.

2. Versatile

The logo should be functional, it should be design in vector format to ensure that it can be scaled to any size, it should be able to work both in vertical and horizontal format.

Questions to ask yourself?
Is your logo still effective if is printed in one colour? Printed on something small as a business card, or something as large as a billboard? Printed in reverse (light logo on dark background)

An effective logo should be timeless. When you design your logo think if it will be effective in 10, 20, 30 years.

4. Appropiate

If you are designing a logo for a law firm you should use the same forms and colour
scheme as for a toy’s store.

Maybe contrary as many think a logo doesn’t need to show what a business sells or offer as service. Car manufactures logo’s don’t show cars, Harley Davidson logo is not a motorcycle, Apple logo is not a gadget. A logo is purely identification.

For further evidence of this, take the top 50 brands of the world – 94% of the logos do not describe what the company does.
